Frequently asked questions

We answer all your questions about at-home makeup.

How much time should be allocated for professional makeup at home?

The duration of the service depends on the degree of complexity of the look you want and the pace of each makeup artist.

In general:

  • Regular makeup takes 45 to 60 minutes
  • Bridal makeup takes between 60 and 75 minutes
  • Light makeup or flower girl makeup takes 30 minutes
  • Applying false eyelashes takes an additional 5 to 10 minutes

To optimize your time, we encourage you to prevent interruptions as much as possible and provide an environment where your makeup artist can work effectively.

Where’s the best place to do makeup at home?

The space you choose must provide adequate brightness as well as a surface large enough for your makeup artist to place her equipment.

Natural light is your BFF! It’s recommended that you sit near a window. Usually, the kitchen or the dining room is the best spot to create a beautiful masterpiece.

Is it recommended to do a makeup trial beforehand?

Anyone can benefit from a makeup trial, but we especially recommend it for brides-to-be.

Opting for a makeup trial offers several advantages:

  • It allows you to get to know your makeup artist beforehand and familiarize yourself with the makeup process at home.
  • During the trial, you will have the chance to discuss your tastes, preferences and needs with your makeup artist in a much more relaxed setting than on the big day.
  • A makeup trial gives you a preview of the final look, so you can make any fixes and improvements as needed for the big day.

How do makeup trials work?

All makeup trials are done at home. You’ll be made up by the same makeup artist during the trial and on your big day.

The session lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes, and the trial is a service in its own right, which doesn’t commit you to anything.

When should I make an appointment for my makeup trial?

It’s generally recommended that you perform the makeup trial 1 to 3 months before your event.

How do you make an appointment for makeup at home?

Once you’ve chosen Muses to do your makeup for your event, you’ll need to provide us with:

  • The number of people to be made-up.
  • The exact address where the work will take place.
  • The desired start time for the preparations.

With this information, we’ll be able to prepare your quote.

A deposit will then be required to reserve your place.

Your place will be officially reserved when we receive the deposit. It should be noted that we proceed with booking only after having received a deposit in advance.

Can I choose my makeup artist?

If the work of one of our collaborators particularly delighted you, we’ll be pleased to respond to your special request, if possible.

In the event that the artist in question is not available for your event, we’ll attempt to award your contract to a makeup artist with a similar style.

How does it work for false eyelashes?

False eyelashes are provided by the makeup artist who applies them. Higher-end false eyelash designs may be available to you, depending on your artist’s inventory.

You need to plan an additional $15 for false eyelashes.

Do I have to pay my makeup artist directly during the contract?

No payment is made directly to your makeup artist during your event, other than the tip (in cash only), if applicable.

In the days following the contract, we’ll send your final invoice by email. If you added products or services during the contract or if the scheduled time was exceeded, your final invoice will reflect those changes.

Payment of the balance (amount of the final invoice minus the deposit paid in advance) is made to Muses, upon receipt of your invoice, by electronic means.

Should I get anything before my date?

No, our makeup artists will take care of absolutely everything for you! They’ll have the necessary equipment with them to perform the most beautiful makeup session.

On the other hand, if you have allergies or special requests, we invite you to let us know beforehand.

And if you have a favourite product that you can’t live without, don’t hesitate to have it on hand!

What products will be used during my home makeup?

The materials used vary from one makeup artist to another. It’s important to us that each of our artists is familiar with the products they use and that they choose materials with which they are completely comfortable.

That said, a systematic check of our collaborators’ kits is performed during their integration into the Muses network. This allows us to ensure that professional-grade makeup products are the majority proportion.

Do you offer hairdressing services?

It may happen that our makeup artists are trained in makeup as well as hairdressing. If the parameters of the contract permits, we may be able to offer you these two services simultaneously.

However, as a general rule, we don’t offer hair styling services, as we’ve chosen to specialize only in in-home makeup. We prefer to be experts in this field and provide you with the best professional makeup service possible!

Should hair or makeup be done first?

It’s recommended to have the hairstyle done first before going under our brushes.

Hair washing, hair irons, and hairspray can alter makeup.

However, if your schedule doesn’t allow you to do this and there’s no hair washing involved, it’s no big deal if the order is reversed!

As beauty professionals, our makeup artists always respect and honour the work of their fellow hairdressers.

What if I need the services of 2 makeup artists?

If your contract can be carried out by a single professional, this is generally the formula that we prefer.

On the other hand, if the number of muses exceeds the production capacity of a makeup artist within the given timelines, we can assign 2 makeup artists to your contract, under certain conditions.

How much in advance should I reserve my place?

As early as possible!

Keep in mind that April through September is a very busy time for our industry, and most of our contracts are set months in advance.

With too tight deadlines, it’s likely that all our makeup artists’ services are already retained, unfortunately. Despite everything, we still encourage you to try your luck, you never know!
